How to Motivate Yourself or Your Child to Practice Jazz Piano Regularly

When learning to play jazz piano, motivation is key (Pardon the pun).

You should be able to play progressions and phrases in all keys, including the minor and major ones.

Because jazz songs change keys frequently and in unusual ways, it is difficult to learn how to play every key unless you know how music harmony (Especially jazz harmony) works.

However, most people don't have time to learn every key, so they just stick to the flat and major keys for a while, then switch back to learning the major and minor keys when the song is done.

|Most people don't have the time or patience to learn all the keys. They stick with the major and flat keys for a while and then switch to the minor and major sharp keys when the song is completed.

The first thing you need to do is to set a time to practice

Piano phraseology created by Alex Bohrer, enables you  practice only 10 minutes every day. The more frequents the practice sessions the greater the results.

Alex Bohrer compares practice to watering a plant. Water just enough for the plant to absorb at any given time.

Allow the water time to soak in and return when the plant can handle more water. Overwatering or watering too infrequently will kill the desire to continue because nobody wants to feel like they've failed over and over.

The exact length of each practice session is contingent upon your ability to retain focus without the mind wandering. Everyone is different.

Remember frequent short jazz piano practice sessions are far more productive in general.

Piano phraseology will enable you to master the most difficult pieces quickly, creatively and spontaneously without spending too much time trying to memorize them.

Setting aside a specific time for practicing every day is very helpful.

Plan your practice sessions ahead of time.

It is also an excellent idea to plan your day around practicing the piano.

Another way to motivate yourself to practice jazz piano regularly is to get a practice buddy.

A buddy who can practice at the same time as you is a great way to motivate yourself.

Find a buddy to practice with you.

If you can't find a practice buddy who shares your practice schedule, send encouraging messages to each other every day.

You can join hashtag challenges on social media or create your own.

You can post short clips of yourself playing every day on social media.

This will give you positive feedback on your progress and help you stay motivated to practice.

You can make your practice more fun by listening to your favorite music, and performing it in new ways. For example one Cool Piano Teacher student loves re-harmonizing classical pieces converting them to modern sounding pieces. Many others do the same with show tunes, hymns and pop. The possibilities go on.

Contrary to what is taught by traditional teachers the Cool Piano Teacher believes It's a good idea to experiment with new things and to improvise as often as possible.

Remember, the best way to learn is by doing something that inspires you and that is fun!

It's essential to challenge yourself and stretch yourself.

You will improve your skills and motivation to continue with your studies if you practice when you practice often.

It's important to have doable goals when you start out with jazz piano.

Setting smalls goals will keep you motivated. One common Cool Piano Teacher phrase is practice small & think big.

You can also set a goal to keep you motivated as you are practicing.

A goal will give you a sense accomplishment which makes practice rewarding.

It will help you stay focused on your practice and improve your skills.

You can also share your progress with friends.

To keep yourself motivated, it is essential to have a goal.

Set goals for every three to four months.

Write down the things you want to achieve and reward yourself when you reach them.

You might, for example, set a weekly goal to improve one particular jazz skill. This could take you a month.

You may want to break up your practice sessions into different parts of the day, for instance.|

Setting goals is important, but so is setting a deadline to practice jazz piano.

A deadline will help you stay on track with your practice.

In addition, piano arranging taught by the cool piano teacher can help you get motivated.

With access to free lead sheets, free sheet music and free chord chart apps, there is always an abundance of new material to arrange which suits your taste and style.

Having goals will make a positive impact on your life.

You'll see results quickly if you are committed to practicing regularly.

Not only is Cool Piano Teacher Piano Phraseology a sure way to attain doable goals but so is Practice meditation which Alex teaches as well.

Practice meditation makes practice a source of stress relief rather than a cause of stress.

It is important to remember that practice is an integral part of your musical development.

You must be able to practice regularly.

{In jazz, Cool Piano Teacher's Piano phraseology may allow you to keep practice sessions short but you still need to practice often throughout the day totaling around one hour if possible.

An hour of practice can be challenging for busy professionals but there are creative ways to adapt.

For example, when away from your piano, practice jazz theory in your head. You should only need the piano to developed muscle memory.

You can also hire a professional to practice with you.

Purchasing practice videos are a great alternative if you don't have the budget for a professional.

The Cool Piano Teacher monthly membership offers customized practice videos for those with a very limited budget.

Contact the Cool Piano Teacher at 512-484-5002 for more information on this unique but extremely effective option.

You should also find a teacher or program that allows you to work at your own pace. This removes undue pressure.
